Kinship Carer Identification
The examples that my hon. Friend cites are incredibly traumatic. These situations are even more complicated for those who do not have legal parental rights and who have an informal kinship arrangement. Has he had any thoughts about what could be done to support those families?
I thank the Minister for the serious consideration that has been given to this pilot. It is exceptional. We heard from the hon. Member for Strangford (Jim Shannon) what a difference financial support makes. I congratulate the Minister on making sure that this happens for these families, who are not …
Commons Oral Questions 10 February 2026
Topical Questions
What progress is being made on carbon capture, usage and storage and hydrogen projects in the Humber?
Commons Oral Questions Home Department 9 February 2026
Police Services: In-person Access
Humberside police, and the trade unions representing them, have raised concerns about the potential closure of counters under Operation Balance. Further to the Minister’s remarks, can she offer any reassurance to my local community that they will be able to contact local police as and when they need…
Commons Oral Questions 5 February 2026
Business of the House
Will the Leader of the House please advise me on the best way to get the concerns of Grimsby businesses on Cleethorpe Road considered in detail and perhaps reflected in the Government’s planned high streets strategy? They are facing a severe economic impact from the council’s plans to remove parking…
Commons Oral Questions Solicitor General 5 February 2026
Child Abduction and Custody Act 1985
My constituent had a dreadful experience following her daughter’s kidnapping and assault. The CPS has admitted that the handling of the case was flawed, including through the failure to offer a victim personal statement and by too readily accepting a plea from the perpetrator, which meant that he go…

Fish and Chip Sector
The hon. Gentleman is setting out really well the challenges that fish and chip shops are facing in this difficult international climate, but there are domestic issues too. North East Lincolnshire council, in my constituency, plans to pedestrianise Cleethorpes marketplace, which the famous Steels Co…
The supply of fish is an international business, and it is really complicated. One issue that has been problematic is that, post Brexit, some of our supertrawlers, such as the Kirkella, are no longer able to supply to the UK, which has elevated the cost of this food.
Commons Westminster Hall 3 February 2026
Town and City Centre Safety
My hon. Friend mentioned dodgy shops. I have been running a campaign against dodgy vape shops and others on the high street. Safety is so important, and these shops, which sell goods to young people, erode confidence in the high street. Does he agree that commercial landlords must be given more powe…

Indefinite Leave to Remain
It is a pleasure to serve under your chairmanship, Sir Edward. The proposed changes to ILR and the consultation on earned settlement have far-reaching consequences, so it is essential that they are delivered with fairness and compassion. I support the Government’s mission to restore control of and c…
Commons Ministerial Statement 29 January 2026
Women’s State Pension Age Communication: PHSO Report
This Government have rightly taken action for Hillsborough victims and sub-postmasters affected by the Post Office scandal, and on the mineworkers’ pension scheme, yet this situation seems to have been put in the “too hard to deal with” box. Why does my right hon. Friend think that these women shoul…
Commons Prime Minister's Questions Prime Minister 28 January 2026
Engagements
Q12.   Sergeant Matthew Telford, Trooper Robert Pearson and Guardsman James “Jimmy” Major, who was aged just 18, were three heroic servicemen from Great Grimsby and Cleethorpes who made the ultimate sacrifice on their tours of Afghanistan. I want to put on the record my condemnation of President Tru…

Fishing Industry
Does my co-chair on the all-party parliamentary group on fisheries not think that the marine spatial prioritisation programme, which was introduced last summer, will do exactly the job he is hoping to see delivered?
I thank the Backbench Business Committee for making time for this debate and for restoring it to the main Chamber, as we have been asking for many years. I congratulate the Chair of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee—the right hon. Member for Orkney and Shetland (Mr Carmichael), who c…
Commons Ministerial Statement 22 January 2026
Energy Costs
It is welcome that the Government agreed with the Select Committee that we should be more ambitious about smart meter roll-out, so that household customers can get the best tariffs for them. We also heard evidence that there was a lack of consumer confidence in smart meters. Does the Chair of the Se…

Oil Refining Sector
I thank my hon. Friend the Member for Brigg and Immingham (Martin Vickers) for securing the debate and for being so gracious with his time. For workers and their families across the Humber, the past six months have been bruising to say the least. People who have spent their working lives keeping a …
I disagree with that, but I urge the Government to be prepared to open up on some of the process. I understand that there will be commercial sensitivities, but I hope that a route can be found to enable us to scrutinise the information available.

Offshore Wind
I am old enough to remember when a Conservative Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, said that he wanted Grimsby to be the Riyadh of offshore wind. I also remember the shadow Energy Secretary, the right hon. Member for East Surrey (Claire Coutinho), attending offshore wind conferences and championing the …

NHS Dental Services: Great Grimsby and Cleethorpes
13. What assessment his Department has made of the adequacy of access to NHS dental services in Great Grimsby and Cleethorpes constituency.
The latest NHS statistics show that the Government really have the bit between their teeth as 7,000 more children saw a dentist in 2024-25 than in the previous year in the Humber and North Yorkshire integrated care board area. However, the rate for adults has slipped from 43% to 41% over the same pe…
Commons Ministerial Statement 8 January 2026
Road Safety Strategy
I thank the Minister for taking the time before Christmas to talk to me about my constituent Jamie Nolan, who sadly lost his life last October, aged 17, when his vehicle left a rural road in the dark. His parents, Sam and Paul, are obviously devastated, but they are really keen to make sure things i…
Commons Oral Questions Transport 8 January 2026
Topical Questions
T6. Will the Minister give his backing to the brilliant volunteers of Friends of the Barton Line in their quest to reduce the number of unnecessary cancellations on the Barton line by East Midlands Railway?
Commons Ministerial Statement 17 December 2025
INEOS Chemicals: Grangemouth
Members might ask, “What has Grimsby got to do with Grangemouth?” Well, this is great news for Grangemouth, but I am afraid it will be cold comfort to the workers at the Prax Lindsey oil refinery, where 400 directly employed people have already lost or will lose their jobs by March, along with hundr…
Commons Westminster Hall 16 December 2025
Grassroots Cricket Clubs
It is a pleasure to serve under your chairmanship, Mr Turner, and I thank my hon. Friend the Member for Welwyn Hatfield (Andrew Lewin) for securing this important debate. Grassroots sport offers so much to so many across my constituency. Whether it is personal fitness, social interaction or a chance…

Digital ID
Thank you, Sir Edward. I will not take up much time. Over 6,500 of my constituents signed the petition. Clearly, there is a great deal of angst and concern around the proposals, and it is imperative that the Minister address the concerns that have been laid out. While I welcome initiatives to stop …
I will not give way—I am sorry. There is also real interest in how personal data would be protected. Trust is very fragile when it comes to digital systems, so can the Minister give clarity that any digital ID would come with the strongest safeguards, transparent oversight and guarantees that data …
Commons Debate 15 October 2025
Jhoots Pharmacy
Five members of staff from Jhoots pharmacy in Laceby Road have been to see me. They have been going into work, but they have not been paid since July. It is absolutely appalling. Can the Minister set out what pressure he and the Department can bring to bear on this chain, which has now unfortunately…
Commons Westminster Hall 4 September 2025
Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund
It is a privilege to speak in this very important debate, and I thank the hon. Member for Mid Sussex (Alison Bennett) for securing it. I am the chair of the all-party parliamentary group on kinship care and have lived experience of kinship care, so I know how significant this discussion is for famil…

T6. What reassurance can the Minister offer the nearly 1,000 workers at Prax that the Government are 100% focused on finding a new owner for the Lindsey oil refinery?
Commons Ministerial Statement 14 July 2025
State of Climate and Nature
The Secretary of State will know that my constituents know more than most what it means to host clean energy infrastructure. However, the failure of the cross-party consensus is giving rise to quite a lot of concern in my area, where we face job losses at Prax Lindsey oil refinery. Can the Secretary…
Commons Prime Minister's Questions Prime Minister 9 July 2025
Engagements
Q15.   Tax evasion, money laundering, illicit goods and illegal working all undermine our high streets, including Freeman Street in my constituency. They undermine local business confidence and challenge community cohesion. That is the reality around the country because of the explosion of vape shop…
